    It is up to your potential instructor to determine their eligibility, so it's a good idea to take the time now to have them make sure.

  • Your instructor cannot have six or more points on their license.
  • Your instructor cannot have had any convictions (including a probated sentence) of criminally negligent homicide.
  • Your instructor cannot have had any convictions (including a probated sentence) of driving while intoxicated (DWI) in the past 7 years.
  • Your instructor must have a valid driver license for the past three years which has also not been suspended, revoked, or forfeited during that time.
  • They also need to be at least 25 years old they cannot charge a fee for being your instructor they need at least 7 years of driving experience, and they must meet the rest of the requirements below.
  • If you use a designated individual as your instructor, there are a few extra requirements for them.
  • Your parent instructor can actually be a: Parent, Step-parent, Foster Parent, Legal Guardian, Grandparent, Step-grandparent, or an Individual designated by your parent/legal guardian/judge.
  • You'll have to check with your parent instructor to make sure that they're eligible.
